Rigging

The hardware and techniques used to attach loads to the crane hook, including slings, shackles, and spreader bars.

In Detail

Rigging encompasses all the hardware and methods used to connect a load to the crane for lifting. This includes wire rope slings, synthetic slings, chain slings, shackles, hooks, eyebolts, spreader bars, lifting beams, and other below-the-hook lifting devices. Rigging must be inspected before each use by a competent person, looking for damage, wear, deformation, and proper capacity markings. Improper rigging is a leading cause of dropped loads and crane accidents. Rigging capacity must be calculated based on the configuration (number of legs, angle) and documented in the lift plan.
