Lattice Boom

A crane boom constructed from individual steel sections connected with pins, offering high strength-to-weight ratio for heavy lifts.

In Detail

Lattice booms are crane booms constructed from individual steel sections (typically rectangular or triangular in cross-section) connected with pins. They offer a superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to telescopic booms, enabling longer reaches and heavier lifts. Lattice boom inspection is particularly detailed — inspectors must check each section for bent or cracked chords and lacings, pin hole elongation, pin wear, and proper alignment between sections. Assembly and disassembly of lattice booms are themselves critical operations requiring qualified supervision. Environmental factors like wind, ice loading, and temperature affect lattice boom capacity.
