Structural Inspection

Detailed examination of a crane's structural members for cracks, corrosion, deformation, and weld integrity.

In Detail

Structural inspection is a thorough examination of all load-bearing members of the crane including the boom, jib, mast, superstructure frame, turntable, crawler frames or carrier, and outrigger beams. Inspectors look for cracks (especially at weld joints and high-stress areas), corrosion, deformation, bent or buckled members, loose or missing bolts, and worn pin connections. Advanced techniques like magnetic particle testing (MT) or ultrasonic testing (UT) may be required for critical welds. Structural failures are among the most catastrophic crane incidents — they often occur without warning and can result in total collapse. Structural inspections are a key component of annual comprehensive inspections.
